St Kilda Ale Star session report - 'Ales with Unusual Ingredients'

Tuesday's Ale Star appreciation session saw a smaller-than-normal turnout for the "ales with unusual ingredients" theme. Some of the long time members even wistfully commented that it was like the old days! For the 40 or so who did attend, however, there were some very interesting beer (with interesting stories) on offer.

The night started with another two Ale Star annual members receiving their member shirts followed by a screening of a hilarious video segment from Adam Hills on Gordon Street Tonight TV show featuring Gemma (#S19) in a hidden camera sting.

Then we got on to the beer...

After the recent installation of the Funky Brewster beer booster we thought it only right to do something with it for this session. The Doctors Orders Zephyr running through pepperberries & orange rind not only looked great (see photo above) but worked really well with the Belgium Double Wit. Hats off to brewer Darren 'Doc' Robinson from Doctors Orders in picking the crazy ingredients to infuse his beer with.

The Beer Here Mørke Pumpernickel Porter was a pleasant surprise and we also sampled Mikkeller Texas Ranger Chipotle Porter & the Grozet Gooseberry and Wheat Ale. From memory, the Beer Here beer (?!) was the crowd favourite.

The next Ale Star appreciation session on Tuesday April 19th showcases lambic-style beers. Tickets are $40 which includes beer/pizza. Starts at 7pm and everyone welcome. Click here to book now.
