The Locals go down in a thrilling final

The Locals touch footy team in Sydney fell just short of a fairytale debut season, going down 4-3 Sunday morning in a golden point sudden-death thriller.

Following a turbulent start to the season, which included an embarrassing 11-0 thrashing, the boys found some momentum when it counted to finish the regular season as minor premiers. After battling through the semi's, the team found themselves in the Grand final against Team Ngui who had finished 1 point behind on the ladder & had defeated The Locals two weeks before in the major semi final.

With the exception of rocket-rod, who was busy bringing up his pre game Red Bull & banana on the field, The Locals were focussed to start the game and took a 2 nil lead thanks to a double from inspirational skipper Halps. Rocket would quickly recover but without regulars Ando & McFly, fatigue started to set in as the morning heated up, leading to Team Ngui piling on 3 tries on the back of some defensive lapses.

Down 3-2 at the half, The Locals regrouped, stepped up their intensity in defence and kept the opposition scoreless in the second half. Rumfy shook off a big night to cross for his first and one of the teams most important tries of the season, levelling the scores at 3 each.

Some great scrambling defence by The Locals and a couple of missed chances in attack kept the scores deadlocked at the end of regulation.

The extra time period proved to be a battle of the wills with each team losing a player every 2 minutes. With both teams fielding 5 players, Team Ngui eventually found a gap and crashed over to secure the winning try and the championship.
