The inspiration - The Office Burger
On the very same day in 2000 that I had my craft beer epiphany, I also had a burger epiphany too. It was at the original Father's Office, LA's original craft beer bar on Montana Ave in Santa Monica, LA, where I was living at the time. I had heard many great things about their famous Office Burger and it lived up to its reputation on repeat visits. The Office Burger is a patty of fine dry-aged beef topped with caramelized onions, Gruyère and Maytag cheeses, applewood-smoked bacon compote and arugula served on a soft roll. Chef and owner, Sang Yoon, is infamous for allowing no substitutions or alterations of any type!
When The Local Taphouse opened first in St Kilda, I dreamt of building a burger that we'd become known for. It took a few attempts and some time but it was when Head Chef Robbie Oijval joined us the Darlo Taphouse that it kinda clicked. Robbie came up with The Taphouse 3 Beer Beef Burger which became so popular we introduced it in St Kilda too. We've tweaked it along the way in the continuing search for improvement but we're pretty proud of it..
Anyway, the reason I'm writing this now is that Burger Adventure, a blog that proclaims to review the best burgers from Australia and around the world, has just posted a great review about the 3 Beer Beer Burger. You can read about it here.

Yeaah! The Office is a great spot, next time you make it out to CA you have to check out San Diego. I'm from LA but after living in SD for 5 years I have to say they have a pretty unrivaled beer culture thats growing rapidly.
ReplyDeleteSan Diego (Stone, Green Flash etc) will definitely be on my list when I get back there next year!
ReplyDeleteI pass through SoCal every year or so and I think it's going to pick up quite fast from now on..

PS. Great to see beer fans from CA reading this blob by the way!
