A Feral crowd make for a special night at Darlo Ale Stars

There was a big roll up of 60 people on Tuesday to listen to special guest, Brendan Varis from Feral Brewing, introduce four of his great beers and have a chat with 'The Locals' about his brewing experiences. Brendan was joined by his wife Gabs and Will Irving, another brewer from Feral.

Feral has been a popular brew at The Local Taphouse since its inception and an eager crowd listened intently as Brendan kicked the evening off with the barrel fermented Oak Aged Hop Hog IPA followed by the Funky Junky wild ale. As trivia commenced the teams jostled for positions, some with iphones hidden under tables searching for the answers. Paul was kept on his toes deducting points at will from unscrupulous players!

As Jordan and Leilani kept busy racking up the beers, Brendan regaled the crowd answering questions from the floor in rapid succession. The evening's beer selection finished strongly with the popular Fanta Pants and Boris Stout. Trivia stepped up a gear too with a only 1/2 point separating the Vincibles in first place from the rest of the field.

As part of the night Brendan gave the Ale Stars the opportunity to name the special brew Feral will produce for The Great Australian Beer SpecTAPular at The Local Taphouse on 12th February. The competition was declared a tie with the Karmacitra IPA and the Coconut Brown Ale, so Brendan has decided to brew both!

Huge thanks to Brendan for his efforts to make the night a huge success and to the big crowd that turned out to be part of the event. Thanks also to Andrew Mitchell for taking easily the best photos of the night (come back again soon please!).

Here's the slideshow of the night..

Coming next month is Crazy (Flavoured) Ales on the SECOND Tuesday in January (11th). $35 includes beer/pizza and you can book via our website's Event Diary. Hope to see you there.

  1. Actually, I think the Vincibles lost by half a point. :(

Excellent night, awesome to meet Brendan, Will, and Gabs, and of course to chat to the usual suspects. Looking forward to Ben Kraus in Feb!

  3. I'll sadly be missing it as I'm overseas for most of January. I'll be there in spirit, though.
