Brewers & Chewers a hit in Darlo
Brewers & Chewers, our second event during Sydney Craft Beer Week, gave guests an opportunity to get up close and personal with 5 of the country’s leading brewers hosted by none other than Kirrily the Beer Diva.
All guests were shown to their tables before Kirrily introduced the brewers one by one listing their impressive achievements to applause usually reserved only for rock stars. Once seated and with the brewer’s beers gracing the tables conversation was quickly flowing.
The menu for the evening had been beautifully designed by Head Chef, David, and the slow roasted saltbush fed shoulder of spring lamb with rosemary & London Stout jus was a massive hit as was the wild mushroom, fetta & Feral Hop Hog ‘beerisotto’.
Every half an hour a bell sounded and the wait staff escorted each brewer to the next table where conversations started all over again. Kirrily briefly interviewed each brewer giving us all a little insight into the unique experiences and perspectives they have.
Ben Kraus talked about his recent trip overseas and collaboration with Nogne O where they brewed an ‘India Saison’ (which was also available on tap that night!). Richard Watkins was asked about his love of Real Ales and why he believes they’re the way to go with reference to some human biological processes. Brendan Varis reluctantly discussed the new trend of Extreme Beers but expressed a preference for getting the word out about great craft beer as the number one priority. Brad Rogers discussed his love of coffee (of all things) and the parallels between great coffee, great wine, great food and great beer while Shawn Sherlock discussed the demands of brewing and the challenges of keeping up with growing demand.
The beers on the night were a great mix and included Stone & Wood Pacific Ale, Bridge Road Chestnut Pilsener, Wig & Pen 2000 Not Out, Feral Hop Hog IPA and Murray’s The Bock and Spartacus. What a line up!
Becky flew up from Melbourne to help with the night to ensure the place looked beautiful, ran as smoothly as can be and did a great job getting everything organised. David’s feast was amazing! A huge thanks to them both as well as to our wonderful wait staff. Finally, a massive thanks to the brewers for their time and to Kirriliy for being the hostess with the mostest.
