Prof Pilsner (second from left) is presented with his trophy.
It's not often The Local Taphouse is associated with winners (see Sluggers - until recently!) but this is one #winner we need to tell you about.
Prof Pilsner (aka founding Ale Star member, Pete Mitcham, aka EP for Radio Brews News) sent us an email and photo about the recent MLA BBQ Tongmaster 2011 Championships where he was a finalist in the Victorian heats of the Tongmaster (be careful how you say it) competition. He made the finals on the basis of his recipe, Char Grilled Porterhouse steak with Cascade Stout Ice Cream on top.
Then he won! Prof beat the other four Vic finalists by actually cooking the recipe, as judged by Bob Hart, Ben Hicks (Wild Oak, Olinda) and Justin Wise (The Point, Albert Park).
From here, one state winner from VIC, NSW, SA, QLD and WA from Team Australia will now compete against 55 US Teams in the KCBS BBQ Capital Cook Off in Lexington, NC next April.
Prof regaled us all about this honour at last week's Xmas Ale Stars in St Kilda. Needless to say we're very proud of him and wish him well as he attempts to become the World Champion Tonguemaster (woops, Tongmaster).
