Special 48 hour presale offer on Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular tickets for YOU!
To all our Locals, friends and families,
On May 11-13 at the World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton, The Local Taphouse is running a 3 day celebration of craft beer and food. Inspired by our seasonal SpecTAPular beer festivals, the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular (GABS) promises to be the biggest event we have ever run - by far!
We’ll be selling tickets from $39 through Ticketmaster to the general public from 9am on Thursday Feb 23rd. Tickets will include entry, your festival guide and your very own souvenir glass (see photo above).
As a valued Local, friend or family member, we’d like to invite you to take advantage of a very special pre-sale 20% discount. This pre-sale offer is only for 48 hours and begins next Tuesday 21st Feb from 9am. The password you need to know to access this offer is ‘local’. Only a limited number of tickets have been allocated for this offer so be sure to get in quick!
By all means tell your friends about this offer but remember it is only for 48 hours.
The best microbreweries from Australia and New Zealand have been invited to produce 60 different, exciting and never-before-tasted festival beers brewed especially for the event. Delicious morsels from some of Melbourne’s great restaurants and street/market vendors will also be available. The currency for the festival will be GABS tokens which you can purchase either online with your ticket or at the venue. We strongly recommend you purchase tokens online in advance with your ticket to avoid having to queue on the day.
The Royal Exhibition Building will be transformed into a beautiful, European-style beer hall with hundreds of communal tables and benches accompanied by live entertainment creating a festive atmosphere. Beer and food education sessions will also be running for those who want to learn more.
Please help us spread the word and bring along a gang of friends. We hope to see you there!!

Yesssss. What will be the session times?
ReplyDeleteSession 1: Friday 12pm - 4.30pm
ReplyDeleteSession 2: Friday 6.30pm - 11pm
Session 3: Saturday 12pm - 4.30pm
Session 4: Saturday 6.30pm - 11pm
Session 5: Sunday 12pm - 5.30pm
We are also looking at introduce multi-session passes in time for Tuesday morning.
Steve, I take it this means that prices are per session. How much beer is included per ticket?
ReplyDeleteHi David,
ReplyDeletePrices are per session and you get the glass included in the adult price. You can then buy several token options with your ticket too. This will help to avoid the tokens queue at GABS!
Hi Steve,
ReplyDeleteI can't find any news on the Ticketmaster website about the tickets being available for tomorrow mornings pre-sale. Will the pre-sale tickets be sold on ticketmaster or only in person at the local taphouse?
You'll find nothing on there until 9am tomorrow.. but they will be sold via Ticketmaster.com.au
DeleteSteve, that glass looks awesome! What is it's volume?
ReplyDeleteCheers!
370ml (and yes it's a gorgeous glass)
DeleteAny word on the price of the actual beer tokens?
ReplyDeleteIt's gonna be hard to convince the missus that I should fork out this initial payment if all I'm getting for now is a (fancy) glass, a program and an ability to watch other folks drink!
Tokens are $2 each and will be sold in packs of 5 (i.e $10). We have not got final prices of all beers yet so it's difficult to say how much they will be for a regular glass but a tasting paddle of 5 x 80ml tasters will be $10.
ReplyDeleteBummer if you're not able to make it.
I find the price a bit of a hike considering for $40 you don't even get a tasting token.
DeleteTo taste just 10 beers (80 ml each) from the many beers on offer you have to pay an extra $20!! Thats $60!!
The Ballarat Beer Festival got ot right and offered 5 tokens, entry and entertainment for $35.
Hi Anonymous,
DeleteIt sounds like you won't be coming which is obviously disappointing but I will correct you if I may. The brilliant Ballarat Beer Festival charged $47.50 for entry and 5 tokens. Their entry-only ticket price was $35 and you got no tokens for that. We are charging $39 so if you add the $10 for 5 x tokens, they were only $1.50 cheaper. Alas, that small saving would certainly have been negated by the fuel or return train ticket to Ballarat. So, in effect, we're arguably cheaper.
Furthermore, we're also renting a World Heritage-listed building in Melbourne as opposed to a sports oval in Ballarat (which, BTW, I thought perfectly suited their festival).

Anyway, what was your real name?
Steve

ReplyDeleteThat's right. From 9am.. Search for SpecTAPular.. Password to access price is 'local'.
DeleteHey Guys,
ReplyDeleteWhats the VIP tickets get you??
http://thelocaltaphouse.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/gabs-2012-presale-tickets-now-on-sale.html
DeleteHi Steve
ReplyDeleteLooks like the multi-session tickets didn't make it.
Anyways, was just wondering if tokens would be available for purchase online between now and GABS and not only when purchasing a ticket - just didn't occur to me to buy some tokens right away.
Booya! GABS here I come. Twice.
doesnt seem to be working - have they sold out already?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely haven't sold out 15,000 tickets!!
DeleteHave you tried the link - http://www.ticketmaster.com.au/Great-Australasian-Beer-SpecTAPular-tickets/artist/1694427?tm_link=edp_Artist_Name
Steve the VIP tickets are they under "The Local Taphouse - Full Price Adult"
DeleteCheers
Hi there,
ReplyDeleteThe password 'local' isn't working on the Ticketmaster site (for me at least). You can use GABS2012 instead. Gets you the same price and deal.
GABS2012 only gives you the Ticketmaster Database discount of 10%.. 'local' is working if you are booking under The Local Taphouse presale offer and not the Ticketmaster presale offer..
DeleteHaving bought my ticket and tokens, please don't tell me the food is paid for with tokens too.
ReplyDeleteHow do we collect the tokens if the ticket is printed online?
Thanks!
Food is paid for tokens yes! You print out the token voucher and bring it along to GABS. When you enter you show the voucher and we give you the tokens!
DeleteOkay, but I bought my beer tokens online to avoid the queues. Hopefully there'll be lots of token outlets on the day.
DeleteThat's what we recommend. Pre-purchase tokens to see you through most of the session then top up as necessary when queues to have died down. There will be several token stalls as well as roaming token sellers..
DeleteFriends got my ticket, but not the Tokens. Is it possible to buy Tokens in advance of the event without having to get a ticket?
ReplyDeletePrepaid tokens can only be bought when purchasing a ticket (I hoped Ticketmaster could sell just tokens but they can't). You can either buy tokens with another ticket or from one of the tokens stands or token sellers on the day. Sorry I can't help more than that..
DeleteThanks Steve!
Deletemy tokens say Sunday but my tickets are Saturday, are they fine for any day of SpecTAPular?
ReplyDeleteYou can only use get entry for the day and session on your ticket. Call Ticketmaster Customer Service and they will help you..
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same boat as Anonymous @ 4:02PM. I ordered both Saturday and Sunday sessions, but both came with "Sunday 2PM token vouchers". I assume I can redeem them on Saturday as well as Sunday?
DeleteCan you please email a photo of this to gabs@thelocal.com.au as Ticketmaster can't understand how this can happen?
DeleteToken vouchers can be used for ANY session. Thanks for the headsup though. I have asked Ticketmaster to put better wording on the token vouchers.
