We set the table again for Brewers & Chewers

Our annual flagship event, Brewers & Chewers returns this year with an amazing lineup of guests from abroad and our own backyard.

Hosted by the inimitable Professor Pilsner; the evening combines the elements of Meet the Brewer sessions, an intimate dinner party, and speed dating with musical chairs.

This year we have invited 7 guest brewers to join 7 tables, and they rotate every 20 minutes. Lucky guests will be dining and chatting with brewing 'royalty', drinking delicious beers from said 'royalty', and enjoying a delicious 4 course menu around.

All beers on the night are included, and this is what we have:

Two Birds 'Taco'

Feral 'White Hog'

Nail 'Imperial Brown Ale'

Kooinda 'Mosaic Pale Ale'

Moon Dog 'Love Tap'

Bridge Road 'Umami Ale'

Nail 'Clout Stout'

Garage Project (Beer TBA)

Ale Stars with Moon Dog

For this month we are hosting a special Ale Stars with the elusive Moon Dog Brewery from the rustic Abbotsford factory in back streets of inner-city Melbourne.

Moon Dog has been consistently unleashing a new breed of beer onto the Australian beer-loving public; blended styles, barrel aging, wild fermentation, while using some weird and wonderful ingredients. The beers are style-agnostic and irreverent with a healthy dose of tongue-in-cheek, and an attitude that says “Who cares? It’s only beer.”

We will be discussing (and drinking) the following beers; with dinner included:

Love Tap – Double Lager – 5.9%

Bock Naked – Dark German Lager with Chipotle – 7.7%

Mummy Have A Bite – Toffee Apple Amber Ale – 8.2%

Jumping the Shark – Cognac Barrel Aged truffled Imperial Stout – 15.5%

DETAILS:
Tuesday 22nd October, 7pm
Free entry for Ale Stars or BOOK ONLINE

Darlo's BrewShare Report from Sydney Craft Beer Week

November's BrewShare was intimate with only about 10 beers entered but what we lost in quantity we certainly made up for in quality. The style for this night - beers under 4% - was decided at the previous BrewShare so we had an English Mild, light IPAs and a Berliner Weiss.

Anna and Olaf’s Berliner Weiss won the day with its almost lemonade sourness with Michael's British Mild coming a very close second. Best Other Beer was Ben's American Red Ale (also a great beer but at over 6% not quite to style).

The style for the next BrewShare is Anything With Australian Hops! We also decided that the BrewShare after that, in May, will be Sour Beers. So, if you think you have what it takes to create an outstanding brew then do not hesitate in get brewing and book in for February's edition of BrewShare on February 19th starting at 7pm. Tickets are only $20 which gets you some tasty treats on the night too. Click here to book.

Thanks to Dave's Home Brew for their continued support.

Epic Ale Stars in Darlo is, well... Epic!

A sell out crowd packed in downstairs tonight to hear Luke Nicholas of Epic fame talk about his beers for our SCBW installment of Ale Stars.

We tasted the Portamarillo : a collaboration between Epic and Dogfish Head using Tamarillo fruit from NZ, the First Batch Pale Ale, the Coffee & Fig Imperial Oatmeal Stout and finished things off with the aptly named Hop Zombie. What a selection!

Massive thanks to the 80+ peeps who showed up to hear what Luke had to say and to Doc for keeping Luke in line ;-)

eXtreme beer goes off in Darlo

We tasted some amazing beers last night with the boys from the Beer Lover's Guide. Their new book, the "Complete Beer Service and Sommelier's Manual", was handed out to all who came hot off the press. A fantastic guide to all things beer which was well received by all. The beers themselves were wacky and big and no doubt there were a few sore heads this morning!

There are still heaps of fantastic events to check out at Sydney Craft Beer Week. Our Epic tap makeover starts today (Wednesday) and to book for Epic Ale Stars with special guest Luke Nicholas and his amazing hoppy beers, click here.

We won!! We're the best pub in Sydney!

Ossy and I attended the Time Out Sydney Bar Awards yesterday at Cockatoo Island on Sydney Harbour. It was a fantastic day made all the better by the fact that we won! We were humbled to have been chosen out of some pretty special Sydney pubs including The Four In Hand, The Old Fitzroy (who we spent much of the day hanging out with), The Forresters and the Hero of Waterloo.

It's superb timing since it's the start of Sydney Craft Beer Week and the award shows that a craft beer venue can mix it with the best. A huge thank you to Leroy, David Thackray, Dom, Ossy, Scotty,  Rols, Fury, Clive, Simon and the rest of the fantastic team who have all made this happen!

Come and test your beer knowledge against like minded people. Hosted by John Barrand, there's some great prizes and it's free and starts from 7pm - Why not?!
If Trivia's not your thing and you happen to be a beer loving female and proud of it, then do we have a treat for you! The beer will be on tap from 7pm so come down and grab yourself a glass while you still can!

Well, it's Wednesday 24th October, we've been pretty SpecTAPular and quite artistic with an extreme twist, but now it's time to get 'Epic'.  If you're still here, you've done a smashing job so far so let's keep this beer ball rolling into something a little classier! Thursday 25th October we are hosting our annual 'Brewers & Chewers' event, a delicious 5 course dinner with the brewers themselves who are bringing some special (and in some cases, one of a kind) brews.
Come and dine with the brewers at a feast that will surely make your week. For tickets book here.
