Oktoberfest - SpecTAPular X - St Kilda goes "übergeschnappt"!

A huge day of Sunshine, Lederhosen, Beer and Bratwurst.

The Local Taphouse in St Kilda notched up its 10th SpecTAPular in record breaking fashion.

The day of SpecTAPular X started off well, the sun was out (in Melbourne! can you believe it?), the Lederhosen and Drindl were on, the beer was tapped and, with the exception of one broken keg, pouring very well. We were all set for a big one.

And it was! Things started well, with the guys from the Black Forest Band getting everyone into the Oktoberfest spirit with some yodeling and bell-ringing out on the terrace. Inside, beers were flowing from the world's oldest and second oldest breweries (Weihenstephan and Weltenburger Kloster) and from some of Australia's best breweries.

Everyone was wondering which beer would go first, and we didn't have to wait long - Hofbrau's Oktoberfestbier went slightly after 4pm.

The team in the kitchen were serving up some excellent Bavarian fare to keep everyone's sauerkraut cravings in check. As the evening rolled on, so too did the list of beers that were disappearing. The dance floor was filling, and the band were whipping them into a frenzy with an eclectic mix of Rock 'n' Roll, Oktoberfest favourites, football club songs and national anthems!

Thanks must go to The Black Forest Band for the great entertainment, to all the staff who worked so hard and dressed in such ridiculous (albeit traditional) costumes, to Beccy for Oktoberfesting the venue and the staff, to the breweries and beer suppliers, to the kitchen for serving up the hearty food that got everyone through the day, and Benno for working his Lederhosen off from the start until well after stumps.

A huge thanks to everybody that came along and yodeled, rang bells and made the day such a huge success.

More photos to come..

Prost!
