Sydney's Ale Stars went to Red Hill

What a blast it was to see the restaurant level bustling for this months installment of "Ale Stars".
It was of course for good reason this month my friends, we had some very special guests.
If you've not heard of the Red Hill Brewery, it may be because their brews have been rather elusive up here in Sydney.
We've been fans since way back when and are very excited to announce that Red Hill will now have solid distribution to Sydney.
This fact played no small part in our decision to invite Dave and Karen Golding to host the event and share a little insight on the brewery they founded in 2004.
Starting with they're flagship Pilsner, fresh off draught. A new world style pils, unfiltered and teaming with taittinger hops home grown on the brewery!
Next up was the powerfully aromatic 'Temptation'. This strong, golden Belgian style ale featured an enchantingly 'perfume like' nose. Filling the room with the elegance and poise of a high end French call girl, we were positively hooked.
The third beer in show was their iconic Weizenbock. Since first tapping this beer back in '09, Red Hill's 'Weizenbock' has been highly revered by those Darlo regulars lucky enough to have tried it. Dark n' smoky, lively n' wheaty, this is one for the beer geeks!
After a few great tales, Doc's infinite beer knowledge and of course Dom's left-field trivia, the room was ready for a finisher. Enter Red Hill Imperial Stout. Richly viscous, we floated away on a magic carpet to Nirvana. Will we ever return? Maybe for next months special Craft Beer Week addition of Ale Stars.
Check website for details.
Thanks Karen, thanks Dave and thank you for bugging your local bottlo to grab some Red Hill

Twitter Beer Nuts - Get in Quick!

As some of you may know, we're currently serving Red Hill's Hop Harvest in St Kilda.

Karen Golding (being a bit of a self confessed Tweeterholic) has arranged for a bit of a prize for the first person to say the magic word when ordering. So if you say:

"Hoporific"

when you order a drop of the magic stuff, you'll get your (regular size) beer for free. You'll also get a Red Hill goblet gift.

The only catch is that there's only one to be won so get in quick!

Hop Harvest at Red Hill Brewery this Friday

HOP PICKIN’S ON!

Harvest at Red Hill Brewery is this Friday 27th March, 9am sharp start. They will be providing morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea and of course cold beer!

Please wear old clothes as hops are oily and will stain your clothes. Please also wear long sleeves as hops are scratchy, we will be providing gloves. Bring along a camping chair and don’t forget your hat and sunscreen, it looks like a nice day, 21deg.

RSVP essential, info@redhillbrewery.com.au or call Emma on 5989 2959

Ho Ho Ho! Red Hill's Christmas Ale tapped!

James has just told me that Red Hill's Christmas Ale (7.5%) has just been tapped so the Beer Bulletin SMS has been dispatched already. We only have 3 kegs of this beer (which Sunday Life magazine recently rated 5 stars) so get in quick and get some of the festive cheer in ya!

Here's what Red Hill say about it:
This strong Belgian abbey styled ale is one of the brewery’s most highly awarded (Silver Medal AIBA 08, Bronze medal AIBA 06 & 07) and requested. Deep orange in colour with a lasting creamy head. Spicy hop aroma from our own Hallertauer & Tettnanger hop flowers with a complex malty finish.

Normandy drinks and Red Hill Weizenbock Sells Out in less 2 hours

Last night, Shandy and I dropped in to wish Jeff luck with his new Normandy Ale House venture in Clifton Hill. It is a big place with three areas so it certainly has the potential to bring in the masses. I suspect there's been a strong Carlton Draught culture previously so it'll be a challenge (as it is for all of us!).

Also, read here this afternoon that Red Hill's Weizenbock was released today at the brewery at 11am and sold out by 12.30pm. Our Ale Stars sponsor, Cloudwine, will surely get some but they're very clever those guys @ RH in creating good product and good hype.

We have a single keg which will be tapped probably today and I've heard good reports.. I'll send out an SMS Beer Bulletin.

Red Hill's Weizenbock just released

Just released is Red Hill's Weizenbock (8% ABV). Kegs are on their way to us. Here's how the describe it:

Our tall, dark and strong German. One batch only, brewed by popular request.

This Dark wheat beer presents deep rich toasty chocolate and nut characters, created by our blend of Vienna, Chocolate and Wheat malts. It is highly carbonated for a soft delicate mouthfeel, and we use traditional wheat beer yeasts to develop clove and banana aromatics. The sweet characters and high alcohol of this style are balanced subtly by our own Tettnanger and Halletauer hops.
